"TEST EVERYTHING!" 1 Thes. 5:20-22

HERE'S ANOTHER LIFE PRINCIPLE EXPLAINED BY DR. THOMAS Q. ROBBINSPRINCIPLE: Life is an intentional effort if we are to have any success.  As believers, we see our life as a commission from God that involves faith, trust, service and ministry.  And this commission from God requires a constant evaluation process on our part.  Paul’s closing advice to the members of the Thessalonian church was ~ “TEST EVERYTHING!”.

STUDY FOR JULY 18-24, 2021

Life for a follower of Jesus Christ is an intentional effort as Dr. Thomas
Q. Robbins tells in his opening to this lesson.  Life is an intentional effort if we are to have any success.  As believers, we see our life as a commission from God that involves faith, trust, service and ministry.  And this commission from God requires a constant   evaluation process on our part.  That’s the theme of today’s  Paul’s closing advice to the members of the Thessalonian church was ~ “TEST EVERYTHING!”

Why do that? …. to determine if what each one of them considered and decided upon each day was of God or was not of God.  “Test Everything!” applies to us today just as it did two thousand years ago.  We’re getting close to the end of our study in First Thessalonians. In this lesson that has already started streaming, you, with Thomas Q.,  will cover the scripture found in Chapter 5, verses 20-22 and Thomas Q. will present ways we can better follow Paul’s instruction to “Test Everything!”   In this lesson, you will hear a clear and powerful personal testimony that our teacher shares about one of his experiences at The Citadel.  Do you have a model that helps you in your life?

Parents and other positive examples are good models to use but our main model; our standard to live by is Jesus Christ.  The first tool we should consider using as we “Test Everything!” is the Bible, God’s Word.  The second is the traditions of the church and the belief system it has passed on to us.  The third tool for testing is the model or standard Jesus Christ has provided.  And the fourth is having a spiritual friend to help us to determine whether something is of God or not.   It’s so important to spend some time thinking about the consequences of such and issue and decision as you simply determine, “Is it the truth?

Something To Consider

Scripture makes an incredible assertion: "God lives in those who confess that Jesus is the Son of God and those who confess him live in God."  You mean to tell me that "confessing that one believes that God lives in us and we live in God" is all it takes?   That doesn't make sense!  It just doesn't compute in my 21st Century world!  Do you know why you think that?   It’s impossible to accept this beautiful truth if you only use logic or reason.  Such truth can only can be accepted and believed -- made real -- through simple faith.   (I John 4:16)   -Thomas Q
