"WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?"

OCTOBER 21, 2018

BASIC PRINCIPLE:  What?  It’s a dress code that spiritually affects every one of us.

Why is it that the parables Jesus told are not always that easy to understand?  They were told in an agrarian society to simply illustrate abstract spiritual ideas and principles and make them understandable.  Some of these wonderful teachings reach a point where we all have difficulty establishing the clarity of the message.

Many of the parables have more than one interpretation and there are some that have no clear-cut meaning and we have to depend on the Holy Spirit as our teacher for our interpretation.  The parable of the King and his wedding feast happens to be one of the more difficult to understand and that may be true for you as well.

Dr. Thomas Q. Robbins offers an interpretation that may be helpful to your understanding as well although it is more that likely you have not been that recently concerned about this parable.

There is just so much to deal with in Scripture that’s why it’s so important to engage in daily Bible study, biblical sermons at your church and other opportunities for Bible study such as this Come and See radio Bible study.

The nature of the parable of the King and his wedding feast prompt Dr. Robbins to title his lesson, “WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?” since one of the guests was punished severely for his dress code.  And it’s a dress code that spiritually affects every one of us.  We’re studying Matthew, chapter 22, and beginning with verse 1.

Be ready to deal with a very puzzling parable and yet so very revealing when we understand what Jesus was talking about.  At the conclusion of this lesson you will be able to tell others ‘what you are wearing’ spiritually.

Something To Consider

God used cosmic events and entered into historical events in the early years of his revelation to mankind but that general revelation was incomplete.   Not until He came to earth as a little baby, in a humble setting, did God complete what he intended.  He revealed his will for the salvation of the world through his son.   Jesus was both flesh and God.  He entered into the history of mankind and was seen and heard as "one of us."  He came to earth, not to condemn the world but that the world through His plan and person could be reconciled and have a personal relationship with him.
